I have recently returned from 3 weeks in Europe, taking hand luggage only. Though I did check in my bag in on the return flight – 9.1kgs!
The key to this is Planning – working out what activities I was going to be doing and what outfits I would be wearing. I was meeting friends in Paris for lunch, a 70th Birthday, in Switzerland and 10 days walking the camino in France – very rural. Hence on the train and Metro in Paris, flying from Paris to Milan, train to Switzerland. Train to Zurich, flight to Lyon, train to Le Puy in France. I knew I didn’t want to be dragging luggage, up and down stairs, and along the Metro, lifting it up on the trains etc. We had our luggage transported to our accommodation very day onto Camino, but still after walking 20kms a day and then to haul the suitcase up a couple of flights of stairs to our room, was no joke, when all we wanted to do was to take the boots off! So it did take a bit of planning, not easy, but managed. Often people go on holiday and take way too much luggage, which often doesn’t match their time and often become a curse, when going from one place to another on public transport.
Let me know if you’d like help with packing for any break away. It is worth it!
